Strelitzia reginae

Strelitzia reginae is a slow-growing, evergreen, drought resistant plant with grey-green, tall leaf stalks.  It bears orange and purple bird-like flowers.  Plant in full sun for maximum flowering; tolerates high and low rainfall; and some light frost when mature.  Mulch and water regularly until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks. Remove spent flowers and old foliage as required. Relatively low maintenance. Water well in dry periods. Apply slow release fertiliser annually.
